February 10: MEMORIAL DAY
is being celebrated tomorrow, February 10, Remembrance Day in memory of all 'horror of Foibe. Established in 2002 as a national memorial, the day wants to be a moment of reflection on a piece of history that, until a few years ago, has been totally forgotten. At least ten thousand people, in the dramatic years at the turn of 1945, were tortured and killed in Trieste and Istria controlled by the Communists of Yugoslavia's Tito. A fierce hate and horror represented by sinkholes, chasms natural ones scattered on the plateau of the Carso, where many innocent people were thrown, some of them still alive, accused of being Italian! It is in memory of these victims and many exiles of Youth Action Pontinia we want to remember! The tragedy of the Italians and the victims of foibe today, finally, belongs to the nation. The story of the martyrs, Julian-Dalmatian exodus, too long removed, has been replaced in the memory of our country. Forever. Foibe and memory. A day to remember. Indeed, to remember and honor. To read the story with objectivity. Peacefully. Outside and above the findings of fact imposed by a dominant culture concerned to erase from collective memory uncomfortable truths as the horrendous massacre of thousands of fellow Slavs by the Communists after 1943. A story of exodus, pain, atrocious mass killings, ethnic cleansing, which involved about 350,000 Italians living in Istria, Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia. A tragedy that is particularly strong in a wound in our province, which was home to one of the largest and most important camps for exiles Julian-Dalmatian and still counts among the numerous ethnic groups that make up the fabric of society, a large representation of families protagonists of those sad pages of history, has finally been recognized by all as a national tragedy, for all Italian. Brings back memories of the tragedy of sinkholes is a moral obligation that requires the civil conscience of the nation in truth and in adherence to the critical facts. Remember Foibe today, and remind everyone, without distinction of color and trends, and circumstances that can only be hopeful of the outcome of the difficult path of reconciliation started. One way in which Youth Action wants to play with determination his part with a starring role in safeguarding world peace and the future of our children, love of country.
